Description
These are four square stoneware plates, each 13cm long, 13cm wide and 2cm tall, and each painted with its own phrase: Happy Hour, Ooh La La, Wine and Dine, and Let's Eat. A wavy border frames a plain centre, and the lettering is bold and brushy, so the words read clearly from across a table. The edge lifts into a shallow rim, which keeps olives, nuts or a spoonful of dip where you put them. At this size they are small plates rather than side plates, the right size for a nibble, a petit four or a slice of cake. The set is multicoloured, with a different border on each plate, so the four sit together as a group without matching exactly.
Set them out when friends come round for drinks: olives on Happy Hour, salted almonds on Ooh La La, a little cheese and crackers on Wine and Dine. They suit a coffee table spread as much as a dining table, and four small plates pass round a sofa more easily than one big platter. For dessert, they take a couple of chocolates or macarons beside a coffee. Away from parties, one plate by the kettle holds the day's biscuit. They make a cheerful present for anyone who likes to host.
Each plate is 100% stoneware and painted by hand. Stoneware is dense and hard-wearing, and hand painting means the brushwork varies slightly from plate to plate, which is part of the charm. They go in the dishwasher and the microwave, and they can go in the oven too, so you can warm them before serving a hot bite. We like the four stacked loosely on an open shelf between uses, or laid in a row down the middle of the table so each phrase faces a guest.

Frequently Asked
What size are the plates?
Each plate is 13cm long, 13cm wide and 2cm tall, a small plate for nibbles, sweets or a slice of cake rather than a full meal.
How many plates come in the set?
You get four plates, each with a different painted phrase and border: Happy Hour, Ooh La La, Wine and Dine, and Let's Eat.
What material are the plates?
They are 100% stoneware with a handpainted finish, so the brushwork on each plate varies slightly and no two look exactly alike.
Can they go in the dishwasher?
Yes. They can go in the dishwasher, and the maker also lists them for the microwave and the oven, so they cope with everyday use.
Can I serve food on them?
Yes. They are made for food, and the shallow rim keeps olives, nuts, small bites, dips and sweets in place as you pass them round.
