Description
This SMD LED strip is a flexible 5 metre reel of spaced SMD diodes, drawing up to 7.2W per metre and running on 12V DC. It is a colour changing RGB strip, so the same run shifts through red, green, blue and the mixed tones in between using a compatible controller. Known to many buyers as LED tape or a light strip, it is the type used for under-cabinet lines, cove detailing and outline runs where a slim, continuous source is wanted. The reel cuts to length at the marked points, so the run can be sized to the space rather than fixed at 5 metres.
Because it carries an IP65 rating, the strip suits damp and exposed positions as well as dry interiors: kitchen plinths, bathroom coving, garden eaves, pergola edges and patio outlines all work. As an RGB accent rather than ambient room lighting, it is best judged on the effect it gives rather than a coverage area, washing colour along a skirting, shelf edge or step nose and grazing light across a surface it is fixed to. Mounted behind a diffuser channel the line of diodes softens into an even glow, while a bare run keeps a brighter, more defined edge of colour.
The strip is supplied on a flexible adhesive-backed reel measuring 5000mm long. It runs on 12V DC, so it is not a mains-direct fitting and needs a matching 12V LED driver, sized to the total wattage of the length used and bought separately unless supplied as part of a kit. Cut only at the marked intervals, then connect to the driver and an RGB controller to set the colour. Rated for around 15,000 hours, the IP65 coating seals the diodes against splashes and weather. Other lengths and white-tone strips, plus drivers and aluminium channels, are available across our LED strip range.

Frequently Asked
Does this LED strip need a driver?
Yes. It runs on 12V DC, not mains voltage, so it needs a 12V LED driver sized to the total wattage of the length you use. At 7.2W per metre, work out the wattage of your run and choose a driver with a little headroom. The driver is sold separately unless bought as part of a kit.
Can the strip be cut to length?
Yes. The reel is designed to be cut to length, but only at the marked cut points printed along the strip. Cutting elsewhere can break the circuit on that section. Each cut piece can then be wired back to the driver and controller.
Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?
Yes. The IP65 rating makes it weatherproof and suitable for damp and exposed locations such as garden eaves, patios, pergolas and bathroom coving. It resists splashes and rain, though it should not be fully submerged. For dry indoor runs it works equally well.
How do I change the colours?
This is an RGB strip, so the colour is set through a separate RGB controller wired between the driver and the strip. The controller lets you select solid colours, mix tones and use any preset or fade modes it offers. Without a controller the strip cannot change colour, so factor one into the setup.
