Description

This SMD LED strip is a flexible 5 metre reel of spaced surface-mount diodes, giving a bright, even line of cool white light at 4000K. It draws 4.8W per metre and puts out 440 lumens per metre, run from a 12V DC supply rather than direct from the mains. Sold in the US as led tape light, it cuts to length at the marked points along the reel, so the run can be sized to fit the space exactly. The IP65 rating means the strip is coated and weatherproof, ready for damp and exposed locations where an indoor-only tape would not last.

Because it is weatherproof, the strip suits sheltered and fully exposed positions alike: under eaves, around porches and patios, along garden steps, beneath kitchen units in a splash zone, or as a continuous outline on cabinetry and coving. The light spreads as a continuous low-profile line rather than a single beam, so it works best as accent, cove and outline lighting rather than as the main light source for a room. Plan the run by metre, since each metre adds 4.8W of load, and size the driver to the total length you cut and join.

The reel is a slim flexible profile measuring 8 mm wide, light at 98 g, and is cut only at the marked intervals to keep each section working. It needs a matching 12V DC LED driver, which is supplied separately and should be rated for the full length of strip in use. The cool white diodes carry a CRI of Ra 80 for clean, accurate colour, with a rated life of around 15,000 hours. Does it need a driver?

Yes. This is a 12V DC strip, so it cannot connect straight to a mains socket and needs a matching 12V LED driver. The driver is sold separately and should be rated to cover the total wattage of the length you install, allowing 4.8W for every metre used.

Can the strip be cut to length?

Yes. The reel cuts at the marked cut points along its length, so you can trim it to suit the run. Cut only at those marks to keep each section lit, and join remaining lengths with the appropriate connectors.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes. The IP65 rating means the strip is coated and weatherproof, so it is suitable for exposed outdoor and wet locations such as eaves, porches and patios. It stands up to rain and splashing while still working indoors in kitchens and bathrooms.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the coated surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let it dry before powering it back on. Avoid harsh solvents or abrasive pads, which can mark the protective coating. For outdoor runs, clear away leaves and grime occasionally to keep the output bright.
