Description

This SMD LED strip is a flexible 5m reel of spaced SMD diodes that delivers a continuous run of cool white light at 4000K. It draws 11W per metre and produces 900 lumens per metre, giving a bright, even line for accent runs, cove detailing and under-cabinet work. The reel cuts to length at the marked points every 5cm, so it can be sized to fit a worktop, shelf edge or alcove without waste. Known in the US as led tape light or a light strip, it runs from a 12V DC LED driver rather than direct from the mains, so a matching driver is needed and is supplied separately.

Because it carries an IP65 rating, this strip works in damp and exposed locations as well as dry interiors, which makes it useful around kitchen splashbacks, bathroom recesses, garden eaves, pergolas and sheltered patio edges. Its coverage is a linear wash rather than ambient room lighting, so think of it as outlining a feature, grazing a wall or lighting the underside of a counter rather than filling a room. The cool white tone keeps task areas crisp and reads cleanly along worktops and step edges. Plan the layout in 5cm steps and pair several cut sections from the reel to follow corners and returns.

The diodes sit on a flexible, cuttable circuit board with an IP65 coating that seals it against splashes and weather, and the strip measures 8mm wide so it tucks into slim channels and profiles. Light quality is held to Ra 90 (CRI 90) for accurate colour, and the rated lifespan is 30,000 hours. It is a 12V DC strip, so it must be wired to a 12V driver of the correct wattage for the installed length; it is not a mains-direct product. We also stock matching drivers and aluminium profiles to complete the installation.

Does this LED strip need a driver?

Yes. It runs on 12V DC, so it cannot be connected straight to a mains socket and needs a 12V LED driver, which is sold separately. Size the driver to the wattage of the length you install, allowing 11W for every metre of strip used.

Where can the strip be cut?

The strip is cut to length at the marked cut points, which fall every 5cm along the reel. Only cut at these marks so each section keeps a complete circuit. The full reel is 5m, so you can divide it into several shorter runs.

Can it be used outdoors or in damp areas?

Yes. The IP65 rating means it is weatherproof and suitable for exposed outdoor and wet locations such as eaves, patios, splashbacks and bathroom recesses. It also works perfectly well indoors in dry settings.

What colour and brightness does it give?
