Description

These round stoneware bowls come as a set of 4, each with a plated silver finish. Every bowl is 12cm across and 6cm tall and holds 250ml, which makes it a small bowl: the right size for a dessert, a handful of nuts or olives, a dip or a sauce. The shape is simple and rounded, with gently curved sides rising from a narrow foot, and the silver covers the outside and the inside alike, so each bowl catches the light from a candle or a window. Stoneware is a dense, hard-wearing ceramic, a solid base for a plated finish.

They are made for food, so they belong on the table as much as on a shelf. We like them for festive gatherings, where the silver sits happily among candlelight, greenery and pale linen, and for afternoon tea, filled with biscuits beside the teapot. Four matching bowls suit a small dinner party: one dessert for each guest, or a row of nibbles down the centre of the table.
