Shepherd 2 Light Outdoor Flush Ceiling Light - Dark Weathered Zinc

The Shepherd is a 330mm outdoor flush ceiling light built around two E27 bulb holders housed within a dual-layer glass construction: an inner opal white diffuser surrounded by an outer clear seeded glass panel set into a dark weathered zinc frame. The composite frame carries an IP44 rating, protecting the electrical components from rain splash and dust ingress when mounted under a porch canopy, veranda ceiling, or covered external doorway.

Designed for covered outdoor positions where ceiling clearance is limited, the 145mm height suits porch ceilings, balcony soffits and external passageways where a pendant would hang too low or risk being knocked. The double-glass construction diffuses the light from the two E27 bulbs through the inner opal layer before it reaches the seeded outer glass, giving a softer spread of light than a single clear-glass lantern. The seeded texture on the outer glass replicates the bubble-distorted look of antique gas lantern panes.

The dark weathered zinc finish on the composite frame shows as a textured charcoal-grey with darker areas where the weathering treatment has collected in the moulded architectural detailing around the glass panels and the stepped canopy. The composite construction resists rust and corrosion where a steel-framed equivalent would need regular maintenance. The IP44 rating means the fitting can handle rain splash from any angle but is not submersible — it requires an overhead covering such as a porch roof or balcony above.

What bulbs does it take?

The Shepherd uses two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs, each up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are not included. Most users pair this with warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K for exterior porch and doorway lighting.

Can this be used in fully exposed positions?

No. The IP44 rating protects against rain splash and dust but the fitting requires an overhead covering such as a porch roof, veranda canopy or balcony soffit. It is not rated for fully exposed positions where rain can fall directly onto the top of the fitting.

What is the frame made from?

The frame is a weather-resistant composite material finished in dark weathered zinc. This construction resists rust and corrosion better than painted steel and requires no seasonal re-finishing.

How does the seeded glass affect the light output?

The seeded outer glass adds texture and a vintage appearance but does not significantly reduce light output. The inner opal diffuser does the main work of softening and spreading the light from the bulbs before it reaches the outer glass.
