Description

Our Shellie jug is a stoneware jug shaped like a seashell. Deep rippled ridges sweep around its body, a ruffled rim rises into a broad pouring lip, and a looped handle is studded with small shells and a starfish at the top. It holds 1000ml and stands 18cm tall and 12.5cm across. The whole piece is white, and its electroplated finish gives the surface a glossy sheen, so every ridge catches the light. Even empty, it looks like something carried home from the beach.

At 1000ml it is a generous jug for the table: water with a family meal, milk or juice at breakfast, lemonade in the garden on a warm afternoon. It is as much a working jug as an ornament. The seashell shape suits a seaside cottage kitchen or a coastal dining room, but it sits just as happily on a plain linen tablecloth in a city flat.
