Description

Organza gives this cylinder a soft, slightly veiled surface, and the soft bronze reads warm rather than metallic: a muted brown that gains a faint gleam once light passes through the weave. The drum is broad and shallow, around 35cm across, so it sits low and wide over a base rather than standing tall. Light leaves through the sides as well as the open ends, which keeps the glow gentle and spreads it over a wider patch of wall and table than a deeper shade would.

Being non-electrical, it draws its lamp from whatever it is fitted to, and it is made for either a table lamp base or a ceiling suspension. We would choose an LED GLS lamp behind it, since a cool-running lamp keeps the fabric comfortable and holds the bronze true rather than pushing it yellow. On a lamp base it suits a sitting room side table or a bedroom chest, where the wide shape covers a good spread of light without glare at eye level. Hung overhead, it gives a low, quiet halo above a dining table or a hallway console. It is one we suggest where a deep drum would crowd the space above a base.

The organza is stretched over a round frame with a clean top and bottom edge, and the shade keeps its shape without being stiff. Keep it dry and lift dust with a soft brush or a cold hairdryer on its lowest setting, working around the drum rather than pressing into the weave, as organza marks if it is dampened. It carries a one year warranty. The same round cylinder shape runs right through the range in faux silk, in black, white, grey and ivory pearl among others, and the organza is also offered in cream and in black in a smaller size.
