Description

Organza gives this shade a soft, slightly veiled quality: light travels through the sheer fabric and arrives diffused rather than sharp, and the grey reads cool and quiet against a white ceiling. The cylinder is wide and shallow, 35cm across and 15cm deep, so it sits low and broad rather than drawing the eye down. We reach for shapes like this where a tall drum would crowd the space above a table.

It is made to work either way up, so you can hang it from a pendant flex or drop it onto a table or floor lamp, taking its lamp from whatever it is fitted to. That flexibility makes it useful in a bedroom, where a matching pair on bedside lamps can echo a shade overhead, and in a sitting room where you want light spread sideways as well as down. Keep the lamp modest: a standard LED GLS bulb up to 20W is the right sort of thing, and it wants to stay indoors, clear of bathroom steam and kitchen splashes.

The shade is light in the hand, which helps when it is carried on a slender lamp, and the grey holds its tone whether the lamp is warm or neutral white. Dusting is best done dry and gently, a soft brush or a lint-free cloth drawn across the fabric with the power off; sheer weaves mark if you dampen them, so leave water out of it.
