Description

A short, wide cylinder in faux silk, taupe on the outside with a halo gold lining that warms the light passing through it. The proportions are broad rather than deep, 16cm across and 11cm tall, so it sits low and pushes light down onto a table top as much as out into the room. The fabric carries a faint sheen that picks up the colours around it, and the gold inner face gives what sits beneath a soft amber cast rather than a flat white one. It is made to work either on a table lamp or on a hanging flex.

We use small cylinders like this one on bedside lamps, where a tall shade tends to look top heavy beside a low base, and on short pendants above a hallway table or a dressing table. A golf ball LED is the right lamp for it, and we would keep to 20W or under. Because the shade is shallow, the light leaves it quickly and lands close by, which suits a reading corner, a side table or a pair of lamps flanking a bed.

The shade is faux silk in taupe with the gold face turned inwards, and it is light enough to lift and reposition with one hand. Clean it by working a soft dry brush across the fabric in one direction, and keep water, sprays and polishes off it, as faux silk marks readily when damp. The same cylinder is offered in ivory pearl, black, white and grey, with organza versions in cream, black and soft bronze, and there is a taller cylinder in this range if you want more cover over a lamp base. It carries a one year warranty. No lamp is supplied with it.
