Description

Wider than it is tall, this is a shallow cylinder in grey faux silk, 16cm across and 11cm deep. The weave carries a fine dry sheen that reads as fabric rather than gloss, and the grey stays soft and warm rather than cold. Inside, a white lining lifts the light and keeps the colour of the beam clean. Straight sides with crisp top and bottom edges give it a tidy outline that sits well on a lamp base or hangs neatly as a pendant shade.

The small diameter earns its place where a deeper drum would crowd things: bedside tables, a narrow hall console, a dressing table, or a run of small pendants over a breakfast bar. We would put a golf ball LED in the host fitting, rated up to 20W, which keeps the output gentle and the fabric comfortable. It suits anyone matching several shades across a room, since the shape repeats without ever looking heavy, and it does as much good over bedside pendants as it does on a squat ceramic base.

The grey faux silk is bonded to a white laminated backing, which is what gives the shade its firm, self-supporting shape and its clean inner surface. Keep it dry: dust with a soft brush or a vacuum on its lowest setting, cupping the shade with your other hand as you go, and leave sprays, polishes and damp cloths well away from the fabric. It belongs in dry rooms indoors rather than anywhere steamy. It carries a one year warranty.
