Description

The QTX round disco ball motor is a ceiling-mounted motor designed to rotate mirror balls up to 5kg and 50cm diameter at a constant 0.8 revolutions per minute. The motor runs on 230V UK mains via a 600mm attached cable, drawing just 3W during operation. The motor housing is a metal cylindrical case measuring 118mm in diameter and 80mm in height, finished in matt black.

Designed for installation in homes, bars, clubs, function rooms and DJ setups where a mirror ball needs to rotate reliably without manual intervention, the motor mounts to ceiling joists or structural fixings via four screw holes on the top plate. A central spindle protrudes from the base of the motor housing and accepts standard mirror ball hanging loops or swivel attachments. The 0.8rpm rotation speed is slow enough to produce the classic disco ball light scatter effect without dizzying movement.

The metal housing provides durability and heat dissipation for extended run times, while the 475g weight of the motor itself remains light enough for typical domestic ceiling structures to support without reinforcement when paired with mirror balls under 5kg. The low 3W power consumption allows the motor to run continuously during events without significant electrical load. The motor is rated for mirror balls up to 50cm diameter — larger balls require a higher-capacity motor to prevent motor strain and uneven rotation.

Frequently Asked

What size mirror ball does it support?

The motor is rated for mirror balls up to 5kg in weight and 50cm in diameter. Going beyond these limits can strain the motor and cause uneven or intermittent rotation.

How is it mounted to the ceiling?

The motor has four screw holes on the top plate. Fix the motor to a ceiling joist or a structural mounting point using appropriate screws for your ceiling type. The motor and attached mirror ball combined can weigh up to 5.475kg, so plasterboard alone is not sufficient without a joist or ceiling anchor behind it.

Can the rotation speed be adjusted?

No. The motor runs at a fixed 0.8 revolutions per minute when powered. To vary the speed you would need an external variable speed controller, which is not included and may affect motor reliability.

What's included in the box?

The motor itself with a 600mm mains cable. Ceiling fixings, mirror ball hanging hardware and the mirror ball itself are sold separately.
