Description

The QTX R80 is a 60W reflector bulb with a deep blue coating on an 80mm-diameter R80 glass envelope, designed for stage lighting, sound-to-light installations and atmospheric display work. The E27 screw fitting makes it compatible with standard UK lamp holders rated for 60W output on 230V mains supply.

The reflector design directs light forward rather than allowing it to spill backwards, concentrating the blue output into a defined beam pattern. This makes the R80 more effective than a standard coloured bulb when used in sound-to-light units, party lighting fixtures and display cases where colour wash or accent lighting is required. The bulb suits fixed installations in bars, clubs, retail displays and event venues where blue accent or effect lighting is part of the permanent setup.

The blue coating is applied to the inside of the glass envelope, giving a more durable finish than exterior spray coatings that can chip or fade under heat. The rear reflector layer behind the filament bounces light forward through the coloured glass, increasing the intensity of the blue projection compared to a non-reflector bulb. Rated at 750 hours of operation, the R80 is designed as a consumable effect bulb rather than a long-term ambient light source, and should be replaced when the coating shows visible degradation or the filament fails.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between this and a standard blue bulb?

The R80 reflector design directs light forward through the blue glass rather than allowing it to spill in all directions. This concentrates the colour output into a beam pattern, making it more effective for accent lighting, stage effects and sound-to-light systems than a standard coloured bulb.

Can this be used in a standard table lamp?

The E27 fitting is compatible with standard UK lamp holders, but the R80 is designed for effect and accent lighting rather than general illumination. The blue coating filters out most of the visible white light, so it will not provide usable reading or task light.

How long does the bulb last?

The rated life is 750 hours of operation. This is typical for coloured filament bulbs used in stage and display applications, which are treated as consumables rather than long-life sources.

Is it dimmable?

Incandescent filament bulbs are generally compatible with standard resistive dimmers, but check the dimmer's rating can handle a 60W load. Dimming the bulb will reduce the blue intensity and shift the colour output slightly towards red as the filament temperature drops.
