Description

The QTX DMX lighting lead is a 0.75m shielded cable with a 3-pin XLR male plug on one end and a 3-pin XLR female socket on the other, used to connect DMX lighting fixtures in a daisy chain or to link a controller to the first fixture in a lighting rig. The 4mm diameter cable uses a flexible outer jacket over internal shielding to reduce electromagnetic interference from nearby mains cables, radio-frequency sources and other stage equipment.

This short lead length suits tight configurations where fixtures are mounted close together on a truss, or where a controller sits near the first fixture in the chain. Lighting technicians use 0.75m leads to reduce cable clutter on stage floors and truss runs, keeping the DMX signal path tidy without leaving excess cable coiled behind fixtures. The shielding helps maintain signal integrity when the cable runs alongside mains power feeds or audio snakes, which is common in stage and event setups.

The 3-pin XLR connectors use a standard pinout compatible with most DMX512 fixtures and controllers. The flexible jacket allows the cable to be routed around stands, through cable trays and along truss without kinking, and the shielding provides interference resistance when multiple cables run in parallel. The cable is designed for repeated handling during load-in and strike, and the outer jacket resists scuffing on rough floors and truss edges.

Frequently Asked

Is this cable suitable for DMX512 protocol?

Yes. The QTX lead uses a 3-pin XLR configuration with internal shielding, which is standard for DMX512 lighting control. It carries data signals from a lighting controller to fixtures or between fixtures in a daisy chain.

What's the difference between DMX cable and audio XLR cable?

DMX cables use a higher impedance rating (typically 120 ohm) and better shielding than standard audio XLR cables to maintain digital signal integrity over longer runs. While audio XLR cables may work for short DMX chains, dedicated DMX cable reduces the risk of data errors and fixture drop-outs in professional lighting rigs.

Can this cable be used outdoors?

The cable is designed for stage and event use, which includes temporary outdoor setups. However, the connectors are not IP-rated, so they should not be left exposed to prolonged rain or submersion. For outdoor use, keep connectors dry and off the ground.

What is the maximum chain length for DMX?

DMX512 protocol allows up to 32 devices on a single chain, with a maximum total cable run of approximately 300-400m before signal degradation becomes an issue. For longer runs or more devices, a DMX splitter or repeater is needed to regenerate the signal.
