Description

The Putlar is a flat backed basket woven from seagrass, 36cm tall, 30cm wide and only 12cm deep. The weave is a close twist worked in horizontal rows, tight enough to hold paper upright in it and open enough to read every strand. The mouth is left soft rather than rigid, so the top edge gives a little as something is pushed in. A single plaited loop is worked into the back of the rim to hang it by.

Twelve centimetres of depth means it sits almost flat against a wall, so it goes on a hook by a door, at the end of a run of coat pegs or over the back of a door without standing out into the room. The shape takes post and paperwork upright, or hats, gloves and scarves dropped in from above. Indoor use only.

The basket is sustainably grown seagrass, left in its natural colour. Every one is woven by hand, so the density of the rows and the exact shade of the grass differ from basket to basket. Empty it weighs 0.5kg.

Frequently Asked

How does it hang?

From a plaited seagrass loop worked into the back of the rim, which goes over a hook, a rail or a coat peg.

What is it made from?

Seagrass, woven by hand.

Can it be used outside?

No. Indoor use only.

How do I look after it?
