IP44 Twin GU10 PIR Sensor Outdoor Wall Light - Stainless Steel

This is an outdoor wall light with a motion sensor built into the body, finished in stainless steel. Two open cylinders sit one above the other on a slim rectangular back plate, so the fitting throws a column of light up the wall and a second column down it rather than spreading sideways. Each cylinder takes a GU10 lamp, the small twist and lock spotlight cap, so you choose the brightness and the colour of the light yourself and can change it later without touching the fitting itself. The sensor sits in a small dome beneath the lower cylinder, and the housing is rated IP44.

Two tight beams up and down a wall suit a flat surface you want to graze rather than flood: either side of a front door, beside a garage, along a driveway wall, or on brick and render where the twin scallops of light read well after dark. Because the sensor is part of the fitting rather than a separate unit, it earns its keep at a back door, a side passage or a bin store, where you want light for the half minute you are carrying something in and darkness afterwards. It is usually mounted a little above head height so the sensor looks out across the approach instead of down at the doorstep.

IP44 means the housing is protected against splashing water from any direction, which covers an exposed wall in British weather, though it is not a rating for immersion or for a pressure washer held close. Wiring is a job for a competent electrician. The manufacturer does not state whether the fitting will run dimmable lamps, so treat it as a switched light rather than a dimmed one. It is sold as a single fitting, with a minimum order of one.

What bulbs does it take?

It takes two GU10 lamps, one in each cylinder. A GU10 has two short pins on its base and twists a quarter turn to lock, so check the base of any spare bulbs you already own before ordering.

Can I dim it?

The manufacturer does not state a dimming rating for this fitting, so we would not pair it with a dimmer switch. Treat it as a switched light and choose non dimmable lamps if you want the simplest result.

What colour of light will it give?

That is your choice, because the lamps are separate. Warm white at around 2700K to 3000K flatters brick and a front door, while cool white around 4000K looks crisper on a driveway or a garage wall.

Will it cope with rain on an open wall?

It is rated IP44, which covers splashing water from any direction, so an exposed house wall is fine. It is not rated for immersion, and a pressure washer held close to the lens is best avoided.

Do both lamps come on when the sensor triggers?

Yes. The passive infrared sensor detects movement across its field of view and switches the fitting on, so the upward and downward beams light together rather than one at a time.
