A shallow dome of opal white glass sits against a satin nickel ring, so the light arrives soft and spread rather than as a hard point. At 32cm across it reads as a generous circle overhead while sitting close to the ceiling, and because the light comes from two E27 lamps set behind the glass, brightness stays even across the whole face instead of pooling in the middle. Lit, the glass warms to a milky white; unlit, it sits quietly against a pale ceiling and draws no attention to itself.

This is one we reach for in rooms where a pendant would hang in the way: hallways, landings, boxrooms, stairwells and low kitchens. The glass is sealed against splashes, which also makes it a sensible choice for a bathroom, a shower room or a utility where steam and damp are part of daily life. With compatible lamps and a suitable dimmer it will dim, which is worth arranging in a bedroom or on a landing you walk through at night. It suits anyone who wants proper, usable light from a fitting that stays out of the visual line of the room.

The shade is opal glass, thick enough to hide the lamps behind it, and the metalwork is finished in satin nickel, a low sheen that shrugs off fingermarks in a way polished chrome does not. For cleaning, wait until the fitting is cold, then wipe the glass with a barely damp cloth and dry it off; keep bathroom sprays and cream cleaners away from the nickel. Each lamp can take up to 20W, and we would fit LED GLS lamps here. It carries a one year warranty. What size is this ceiling light?

It measures 320mm in diameter and projects 110mm from the ceiling, so it sits close overhead and suits rooms with limited height.

Which lamps does it take?

Two E27 lamps, up to 20W each. LED GLS (A60) lamps are the sensible choice, and they are not supplied with the fitting.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

Yes. It is rated IP44 against splashing water, which makes it suitable for bathrooms, shower rooms and utility spaces, subject to the usual bathroom zone rules.

Is it dimmable?

It can be dimmed, provided you use dimmable lamps together with a dimmer switch matched to them.

How do I clean the glass?

Switch off at the wall and let everything cool, then use a soft cloth very lightly dampened with water and dry the glass afterwards. Avoid solvents and abrasive creams, particularly on the nickel.
