Description

A shallow opal white glass dome sits in a satin black surround, sitting close to the ceiling and throwing a soft, even disc of light. Two E27 sockets behind the glass mean the brightness is shared rather than pooled in one hotspot, and the opal diffuser takes the glare off. At 32cm across it has the presence of a proper ceiling light with very little drop, which is why we reach for it in rooms where a pendant would hang too low or get knocked.

Hallways, landings, kitchens and bedrooms all suit it, and because the fitting is splash protected it is equally at home in a bathroom, shower room or cloakroom. Head height is the usual deciding factor, and this one leaves plenty of it. It takes a GLS A60 lamp in each socket, up to 20W, and an LED is what we would fit here for the warm, steady output. Dimming is possible where the lamps and the dimmer are chosen to work together, so it can drop back for late evenings.

The glass is the whole character of the piece, thick and milky rather than clear, and the satin black metalwork gives it a quiet outline instead of a shiny one. Keep it looking right by lifting the glass free of dust now and then and wiping it with a barely damp cloth, drying it before it goes back; the painted surround needs no more than a soft brush. It carries a one year warranty. We also stock this two lamp size in satin nickel, and the smaller single lamp versions in both finishes for a landing or a small en suite where a matching look across a home is wanted.
