Polivia Geometric Ceramic Tray - Multi

This serving tray is made from dolomite ceramic and painted by hand with large overlapping circles, so the whole surface reads as one bold, multicoloured abstract. It measures 30cm long, 19cm wide and 3cm tall and weighs 0.71KG, a manageable size to carry from the kitchen to the table. Along the long edges, the circles do not stop at the outline: two of them swell past it, giving the tray a softly irregular shape rather than a plain rectangle. The short ends rise gently, which leaves room for your fingers when you carry it.

It is made for serving, and the size suits a small spread: a few cheeses and crackers, biscuits with coffee, slices of cake, or olives and bread before dinner. It sits neatly on a coffee table, a kitchen counter or the middle of a dining table, and it is just as much at home when there is no food in sight. On a hallway console it gathers keys and post; on a dressing table it holds rings, watches and perfume bottles; on a desk it keeps pens and notebooks together. Because the painting does most of the talking, it also looks good propped upright at the back of an open shelf.

The decoration is painted by hand, and you can see the brush marks across the surface. Care is simple: it does not go in the dishwasher, so wash it by hand. It is not suitable for the microwave or the oven either, so serve on it rather than warm food on it. The unpainted underside forms a low foot that raises the tray slightly from the table. For styling, let it be the one patterned thing in a group: set it on plain linen or pale wood and keep what goes on it simple, so the circles stay the centre of attention.

What is the tray made of?

It is made from 100% dolomite ceramic and decorated by hand, so you can see the brush marks across its multicoloured surface.

Can it go in the dishwasher?

No. It does not go in the dishwasher, so please wash it by hand after each use.

Can I use it in the microwave or the oven?

No. It is not suitable for the microwave or the oven, so use it for serving and display rather than for heating food.

How big is the tray?

It is 30cm long, 19cm wide and 3cm tall and weighs 0.71KG, a good size for cheese and crackers or a few slices of cake.

Can I serve food on it?

Yes. The maker lists it as suitable for food, so it works well for cheese and crackers, biscuits, cake, or bread and olives.

Does the tray have raised edges?

The short ends rise gently and the underside forms a low foot, while the long sides stay fairly flat, so it is a shallow tray rather than a deep dish.
