Description
The Pole is a 160cm graphite aluminium spike light with an integrated 24W LED strip running along one vertical edge of a slender 2.5cm square profile. The LED casts warm 3000K light at 120° angle, illuminating pathways, driveways and garden borders without flooding the entire surrounding area. The IP65 rating protects the internal components from dust ingress and water jets, making the fitting suitable for year-round outdoor use in UK weather.
Designed for insertion into soft ground or fixing to concrete bases, the Pole suits residential driveways, commercial car parks, pathway edges and low-level garden accent lighting where tall bollards would obstruct views or interfere with planting. The 160cm height places the light source at knee-to-waist level for most adults, providing functional illumination without glare at eye level when walking past. The spike base allows installation without excavation or permanent foundations on lawns, gravel beds and planted borders.
The graphite powder-coated aluminium body resists corrosion and UV degradation better than painted steel or plastic alternatives. The 2.5cm square section gives the Pole a minimal visual footprint during daylight, while the recessed LED strip prevents direct view of the light source, reducing glare and creating a clean line of light along pathways. The sealed power connector at the base simplifies wiring on installation and protects the connection point from moisture. At 182.2cm total height including the spike section, approximately 22cm of the fitting sits below ground level when fully inserted.

Frequently Asked
Can this be installed on concrete or only soft ground?
The spike base is designed primarily for soft ground insertion (lawns, planted borders, gravel). For concrete or paved surfaces, the spike can be mounted using a base plate and anchor bolts, though this requires drilling and permanent fixing. Contact us for base plate options if needed.
What spacing is recommended between multiple units?
For continuous pathway lighting, spacing the Pole units 3-4m apart typically provides even coverage without dark gaps. For accent lighting or lower light levels, 5-6m spacing works well. The 120° beam angle means each unit illuminates approximately 1.5-2m of path width.
Is the LED replaceable?
The LED is integrated into the fitting and is not user-replaceable. The 24W LED module is rated for approximately 50,000 hours of operation, which equates to roughly 11 years of continuous use or significantly longer under typical dusk-to-dawn operation.
How much of the spike sits below ground?
The total height including spike is 182.2cm, with the visible body at 160cm, meaning approximately 22cm of spike sits below ground level when fully inserted. Stable installation in soft ground typically requires at least 15-20cm insertion depth.
