Description

A compact capsule lamp on a G9 pin base, drawing 4W and giving a clean, cool white light at 4000K. The clear capsule leaves the LED visible, which is what you want in an open lampholder where the lamp is part of the look rather than hidden behind a shade. Output is 350 lumens, in keeping with the small fittings G9 lamps tend to live in, and it dims smoothly on a suitable dimmer, though no dimmer comes with it.

We reach for it in wall lights, small pendants and multi-arm ceiling fittings, and anywhere the housing is too shallow to take anything bigger. The cooler end of white works well in kitchens, utility rooms, home offices and workshops, where you want the light to read as daylight rather than candlelight, and it holds that character as you dim it down for the evening. It is a sensible swap if you are moving away from halogen capsules and want the same small format on a fraction of the power.

It is a light little thing, slight enough to sit in delicate arms and small glass shades without pulling them out of line. Keep the capsule clear and it keeps looking right: switch off at the wall, let it go cold, then wipe with a dry lint-free cloth, holding it by the base rather than the capsule so no marks are left on the clear surface. Solvents and damp cloths are best kept away. It carries a three year warranty.
