Description
These are square paper napkins printed with a peacock, its tail fanned wide and dotted with eye feathers, standing within a pink border. Each napkin is 33cm long and 33cm wide, the classic lunch napkin size: big enough to lay across a lap or fold into a neat triangle beside a plate. They come in a pack of 20, so one pack covers a long table or a run of smaller suppers. The print does the work of a patterned tablecloth without the laundry, and the peacock gives a plain plate something to look at before the food arrives.
They suit a dinner table, a garden lunch, a birthday tea or a buffet where guests help themselves. The paper is approved for contact with food, so a napkin can wrap a slice of cake for the journey home, line a bread basket or sit under a sandwich on a side plate. Pink and a bird in full display lean towards spring and summer gatherings, Easter, baby showers and hen parties, but the drawing is detailed enough to sit at an autumn dinner too. Lay one on each plate as people sit down, or fan a stack beside the drinks.
Paper napkins are made for single use, so there is nothing to wash, starch or iron once the guests have gone. The print runs across most of the square, with the peacock filling the centre and the border keeping a clean edge. Because each one is a true square, it folds cleanly into quarters, a triangle or a simple pocket for a knife and fork. As a styling note, lay them on a glazed plate with a scalloped rim or beside polished cutlery, where the pink sits well against a wooden table. The styling props shown are not included.
