Description

This is a stoneware milk jug with a round, full belly, a pinched pouring lip and a loop handle. It is finished in a white reactive glaze with a wavy band running around the body. It holds 435ml and stands 10cm tall and 10.5cm across, which makes it a generous milk jug for a shared table rather than a tiny single-cup creamer. Stoneware is dense and hard-wearing, and at 0.31KG the jug is easy to lift and pour with one hand.

It belongs on the breakfast table and the tea tray, keeping milk to hand for tea and coffee. It can also carry cream to the table with a crumble, or warm custard with a Sunday pudding. Because it goes in the microwave, you can warm milk for a hot chocolate in the jug itself and pour straight from it. Since it goes in the oven as well, it can keep gravy warm at a low heat while the roast rests. Between meals it earns its place on an open kitchen shelf or a dresser, and with a few garden stems it doubles as a small vase on a windowsill or a bedside table.

The jug is made entirely of stoneware and finished in a reactive glaze. Reactive glazes move as they fire, so the wavy band settles a little differently on every jug and yours will be its own. It goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so it moves from warming to serving to washing up with the rest of your everyday crockery. For styling, pair it with plain white cups or other glazed stoneware and let the wavy band be the one pattern on the table; the styling props shown are not included.
