Description
This birthday train puts the age at the centre of the party table: five multicoloured wagons linked in a line, each carrying a printed character or cake. A cat in a striped jumper leads with a wrapped gift on its back, followed by a tiered cake under a pennant flag, then a long sausage dog carrying a parcel topped with a two-digit number, a second flagged cake, and a small animal with its own present bringing up the rear. It is made of MDF, beech and aluminium with a printed finish, and the whole train measures 42cm long, 6cm wide and 15cm tall, so it runs neatly along a table without crowding it. At 0.44KG it lifts and moves in one piece.
It is a decoration made for birthdays, so it comes out on the day itself and takes its place on the party table, a sideboard, a windowsill or a shelf in a child's bedroom. A birthday train works well as a small family tradition: the same one appears each year, and the wagons become as much a part of the morning as the cards. It also makes a thoughtful present for a godchild, niece or nephew, wrapped and given a week before the big day.
The cakes, animals and parcels are shaped pieces with printed detail, from strawberries and icing on the cakes to the stripes along the dog's coat, and each wagon rides on its own base with wheels. Small hooks join one wagon to the next, so the train can lie straight or follow a gentle curve along a table. For styling, run it down the middle of the table with a little space at each end, so the leading cat and the last wagon both catch the eye.
