Description

The Panasonic CR2 is a 3V cylindrical lithium photo battery designed for cameras, flash units, motion sensors and other high-drain devices. The CR2 measures 27mm in length and 15.6mm in diameter, making it physically larger than button cells but smaller than AA batteries, and sits between those sizes in applications requiring higher voltage and current than a coin cell can deliver.

Commonly used in compact film cameras, SLR auto-focus modules, rangefinders, security sensors and medical devices, the CR2 provides stable 3V output across its discharge curve until end-of-life. The lithium chemistry gives it a longer shelf life than alkaline equivalents and maintains performance across a wider temperature range, operating from -20°C to +65°C without significant voltage drop.

The low internal resistance allows the battery to handle flash recovery cycles and motor-drive loads that would overwhelm alkaline cells of similar size. This makes it particularly suited to cameras with power-hungry auto-focus motors or high-rate flash units. The battery ships in a blister pack containing one CR2 cell, ready to fit devices using the CR2 / DLCR2 / EL1CR2 form factor.

What devices use CR2 batteries?

CR2 batteries are commonly used in film and digital cameras, particularly models with auto-focus motors or flash units. They also power rangefinders, golf rangefinders, security sensors, medical devices and some torch models requiring 3V output in a compact form.

Can I use this in place of two CR123A batteries?

No. A CR2 is a single 3V cell. Two CR123A cells in series produce 6V. The form factors are also physically different, so a CR2 will not fit a device designed for CR123A batteries.

What is the shelf life?

Lithium CR2 batteries typically have a shelf life of 10 years when stored at room temperature in the original packaging. Actual shelf life depends on storage conditions and the specific manufacturing date printed on the pack.

Are CR2 and CR-2 the same?

Yes. CR2, CR-2, DLCR2 and EL1CR2 all refer to the same battery size and voltage specification. The different codes come from different manufacturers but the cells are interchangeable.
