Panasi Tall Leather Storage Basket - Tan

The Panasi is a storage basket in thick tan leather, 35cm high, 33cm wide and 26cm deep, rounded in plan rather than square. The rim is cut in a curve that dips at the front and rises at the sides, and two leather carry handles are riveted on above it, the rivet heads left showing. The outside is a rich tan that shifts in tone across each panel, and the inside is left pale and unfinished.

At 35cm high and 33cm across this is a floor basket rather than a shelf one, and the low side of the rim takes a folded throw. The leather is thick enough to keep its shape, so it stands square whether it is full or empty. It takes blankets, magazines, logs and everyday things, and because the handles are riveted rather than stitched on they take weight when it is carried from room to room.

The basket is leather. Each one is cut from thick full-grain hide and the panels are shaped and stitched by hand. Leather softens and takes on a patina with handling, so the tan deepens where the basket is picked up most and the markings in the hide stay visible throughout. The Panasi is made in two sizes, this tall one and a wider, lower version.
