Description
The Knightsbridge LANT1WP is a white polycarbonate wall lantern with an integrated 8W 4000K LED and a built-in photocell sensor that switches the light on at dusk and off at dawn. The lantern produces 555 lumens of cool white light through an opal diffuser and carries an IP54 rating for protection against dust and water splashes from any direction.
Designed for front doors, porch areas, rear entrances and side passages where automated lighting reduces the need for manual switching, the photocell sensor activates when ambient light drops below a set threshold and switches off again at sunrise. The 375mm height and traditional lantern silhouette suit heritage-style homes, cottage exteriors and period properties where mains-powered outdoor lighting is needed without the running costs of halogen or incandescent sources.
The polycarbonate construction resists impacts better than glass and tolerates the thermal cycling of outdoor installation without cracking. The 230mm projection from the wall positions the light 150-200mm forward of the door frame, casting light downward onto the threshold and outward across the immediate approach. The Class II double-insulated construction requires no earth connection, simplifying installation on exterior walls where earth continuity can be difficult to achieve.
The manual override feature allows the lantern to be switched on during daylight hours when needed, bypassing the photocell until power is cycled. The 60,000-hour L70B50 rating means the LED maintains at least 70% of its original output for approximately seven years of continuous use, or around 16 years on typical dusk-to-dawn operation.

Frequently Asked
How does the photocell sensor work?
The built-in photocell detects ambient light levels and automatically switches the LED on when it gets dark and off again at dawn. This removes the need for manual switching or timers. A manual override allows you to switch the lantern on during daylight if needed, bypassing the photocell until power is cycled.
Can this be used in bathrooms or fully exposed locations?
The IP54 rating provides protection against dust and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, door canopies and sheltered side passages. It is not rated for full immersion or direct high-pressure water jets, so avoid positioning where rainwater pools or where the fitting would be submerged during heavy rain.
Is the LED replaceable?
No. The LED is integrated into the lantern and cannot be replaced separately. The 60,000-hour L70B50 rating means the LED should maintain useful output for approximately 16 years on typical dusk-to-dawn operation before requiring replacement of the entire fitting.
What wiring is required for installation?
The lantern operates on 230V 50Hz mains supply and is Class II double-insulated, so no earth connection is required. Standard live and neutral connections are needed. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with current UK wiring regulations.
