Description

This is a pair of gold candle holders in iron, each one cut as a flat leaf with rounded lobes and raised on a slim stem above a round base. The taller holder is 18cm tall and 7.5cm across, the shorter 14cm tall and 6.5cm across, so the two stand at different heights and read as a pair rather than as twins. Fine lines are scored across every lobe, giving the gold a textured, uneven surface that catches the light, and a small dimpled cup at the top of each takes a single taper candle.

Because the leaf is open, with gaps between the lobes, each holder looks best where the wall behind is visible: a mantelpiece, a sideboard, a console in the hall, a dressing table or the middle of a dining table. Stand the two side by side for a simple display, or split them across a pair of bedside tables or the two ends of a shelf. The gold sits comfortably against painted plaster, marble and wood alike, and suits a pared-back room as readily as a busy one.
