Description

The NU-X NFM-03 Axon 3 is a stereo pair of compact reference monitors for nearfield mixing in a project studio, or anywhere you need to play back and check recorded material. The set comprises an active speaker with an integral stereo bi-amplifier plus a satellite unit, each fitted with a 3in (75mm) woofer and a 3/4in (19mm) silk dome tweeter. Together they deliver 90W rms, with neodymium magnets giving efficient output and a frequency response down to 55Hz at up to 107dB, comparable with speakers twice the size.

Alongside the wide, accurate response, the system has a built-in stereo DSP for shaping the tonal profile and compensating for room acoustics. All of this is editable from the AXON STUDIO software and app. Inputs cover 2 x 6.3mm jack, a 3.5mm stereo jack (aux) and 2 x RCA (phono), so you can connect most sources directly. Audio can also be streamed wirelessly over Bluetooth v5.0, or fed digitally via the USB-C audio interface for use with a PC or Mac recording setup.

The cabinets use ABS moulding and a custom tuned bass port to get the most from the small drivers. The set is supplied with magnetic feet, which let you set different placement angles, and a padded transit bag. That combination makes the Axon 3 a properly portable pair, so you can take a sound you already know to wherever you happen to be working. Each speaker measures 204.5 x 150 x 94mm and the pair weighs 1.98kg.
