Description

The Newtown is a linear pendant light that hangs three open wire-cage shades from a single black ceiling bar. Each shade is formed from slim steel wires that curve out from a narrow top and draw in again towards a small ring at the base, so the bulb sits in full view at the centre of its cage. The whole light is 70cm long, 16cm wide and 110cm high overall. It takes three E27 bulbs of up to 60W each, and the bulbs are not included, which leaves the choice of colour and glow entirely yours. With an IP20 rating it belongs indoors, in a dry room.

A 70cm bar sits naturally over a dining table or a kitchen island, with three points of light spaced evenly along its length. Because nothing hides the bulbs, a decorative filament lamp becomes part of the look, and the open cages let the light spill freely across the room. It suits industrial and modern interiors, a loft-style kitchen or a dining room with dark wood and black metal chairs. We like it over a long table, since a single bar lights the whole length without three separate fittings. Its 110cm overall height brings the shades well down towards the table, so the light lands where you eat and work.

The bar and shades are steel in a black finish, and the slim wires keep the fitting visually light even over a small table. There is no switch on the light itself; it is switched at the wall, so it works from the room switch you already have. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains and weighs 2.792KG packed. As a wired-in mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. Pick your three E27 bulbs ahead of fitting day, so the light is ready straight away.
