Description
This handmade autumn wreath brings a country lane's worth of colour indoors, with a ring of natural brown twigs dressed in orange and golden-yellow flowers, autumn leaves and two pine cones. The flowers and leaves gather in a generous spray around the left side and top of the ring, led by a large sunflower with a dark, seed-studded centre and joined by smaller orange daisy-style blooms. Inside the open ring sits a light brown squirrel silhouette, its ear, eye, paws and curling tail picked out with cut-out lines. It measures 38cm high, 40cm wide and 12cm deep, a size that reads clearly from across a hallway without crowding a door.
We like it hung on the inside of the front door, where it greets everyone as they come in, but it suits a hallway wall, the space above a fireplace or a kitchen door just as well through the autumn months. The orange and gold tones sit warmly against white, cream and grey paintwork, and the brown twig ring pairs easily with wood, wicker and stone. With the right-hand side of the ring left bare, the squirrel shows clearly, so the piece reads as a woodland scene rather than a solid circle of foliage.
It is handmade, with the twigs woven loosely into an open, rustic ring. To keep it looking its best, dust it gently with a soft dry cloth or a soft brush, and when the season ends, store it flat in a box somewhere dry so the petals and leaves hold their shape for next year. Hang it from an over-door wreath hanger or a sturdy hook through the twig ring, then set a stack of small pumpkins or a bowl of pine cones nearby for a warm autumn welcome. Wrapped in tissue, it also makes a cheerful seasonal gift.
