Description
Our Mill dining chair is a spindle-back wooden chair in black, with a row of slim spindles rising from the seat to a broad top rail. It is made of 100% pine, with legs of rubberwood, and it is finished in a water based paint. It stands 92cm tall and measures 50cm wide and 50cm deep, so allow 50cm of table edge for each chair when you plan a row. A spindle back lets light pass between its spindles, which keeps a run of these chairs from looking heavy round a table in the way solid backs can.
It belongs at the dining table first, where several in a row give a kitchen or dining room a tidy, matching line. The tapered legs splay slightly outwards and are joined low down by stretchers, so the chair looks settled on stone, tile or boards alike. Black sits comfortably beside brick, plaster and bare timber, and the chair suits a farmhouse kitchen as readily as a plainer modern room. A single one also makes a handy spare seat beside a window or a chest of drawers, ready for a guest or a stack of books whenever needed.
The maker gives a maximum load of 110KG, and the chair weighs 4.93KG, light enough to lift and slide back under the table without fuss. Pine is a softwood, and rubberwood is a hardwood, a sensible choice for legs. Black runs over the whole chair, seat, spindles and legs alike. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download, so you can read them through before you start. For a relaxed look, pair two of these with chairs of another shape round a table, or soften the seat with a folded throw and a cushion.
