Description

Metropole is a ceiling light in antique brass. A small brass cone hanging point-down at the centre of a brass yoke, with two wide shallow brass domes carried on short arms either side of it, each tipped so its mouth faces down and out. The domes are lined in brass, so they glow warm from below. Fine black flexes loop from each head back to the central stem, which is a slim brass rod with a sliding joint partway up. The brass is a soft aged gold on every part.

Mounted flush it clears a doorway and a low ceiling, so a corridor, a landing or a small bedroom is its territory, and it lights the whole room evenly rather than pooling on one surface. It is the light you put in first and stop noticing, which is the point of a flush fitting: it does the general lighting so the lamps in the room can do the rest.

The holder is E27 and takes up to 40W each. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block, which is work for a competent electrician. It is class II, double insulated, so it needs no earth, and it is rated IP20 for dry indoor rooms.

Can it be dimmed?

Yes, on a compatible dimmer, provided the lamp you fit is a dimmable one. The fitting has no dimmer of its own.

Yes. It wires into a fixed outlet at a terminal block.

Does it need an earth?

No. It is class II, double insulated, so it is wired live and neutral only.

Can it go in a bathroom?

No. It is IP20, which covers dry interior rooms only. A bathroom needs IP44 or better.
