Description

The Mercury is a wireless door chime system comprising a mains-powered plug-through receiver with an integral 13A socket and a battery-powered waterproof push button transmitter. The receiver plugs into any standard UK socket and provides a pass-through 13A outlet on its front face, allowing another appliance to be used in the same socket. The transmitter operates on 433.92MHz with digital coding to prevent interference from neighbouring wireless devices.

Designed for homes, offices, workshops and care environments where wired doorbell installation is impractical, the system provides up to 80m wireless range in open air (typical indoor range 20-40m depending on wall construction). The waterproof push button fixes to a door frame or gate post using the self-adhesive pad supplied, eliminating the need for drilling or wiring. A removable name card behind a clear plastic cover allows house numbers or names to be displayed on the transmitter.

The plug-through receiver offers a choice of 38 ring tones and melodies selectable via buttons on the unit, with an auto-match code function that pairs the transmitter and receiver to prevent accidental activation by neighbouring door chimes. The receiver can be moved between sockets as needed without re-pairing. The transmitter runs on a single 12V 23A battery (supplied) with typical battery life of 12-18 months under normal domestic use.

The system is also used as a wireless call button in care settings, allowing elderly or mobility-limited residents to summon assistance from another room. The 38-tone selection means different transmitters can be assigned different melodies to identify which room or door is calling.

What is the actual indoor range?

The 80m range applies to open-air line-of-sight conditions. Indoors, typical range is 20-40m depending on wall construction. Brick and concrete reduce range more than timber stud walls. Most users achieve reliable operation through 2-3 internal walls in standard UK housing.

Can I use multiple transmitters with one receiver?

Yes. Additional Mercury transmitters can be paired to the same receiver using the auto-match function, allowing multiple entry points (front door, back door, gate) to trigger the same chime. Each transmitter is sold separately.

How is the push button powered?

The transmitter runs on a single 12V 23A battery, supplied with the kit. Battery life is typically 12-18 months under normal domestic use (10-20 presses per day). Replacement 23A batteries are widely available.

Is the receiver weatherproof?

No. The plug-through receiver is for indoor use only and should not be installed in damp locations or outdoors. The push button transmitter is waterproof and suitable for outdoor installation on door frames, gate posts and external walls.
