Description

The Mercury Economy Cat5e is a 305m outdoor-rated U/UTP network cable with solid copper-clad aluminium conductors, supplied in a dispensing box with 1m interval markings. The PE outer sheath includes UV-resistant properties that allow the cable to be run outdoors along building exteriors, through conduit, or buried in ducting without degrading under sustained sunlight exposure.

Designed for Gigabit Ethernet installations in residential, commercial and light industrial settings, the cable passes Cat5e fluke testing at 100MHz over 100m runs, supporting data transmission up to 1000BASE-T speeds. The unshielded twisted pair configuration suits environments with low electromagnetic interference, while the 5mm diameter allows the cable to fit standard outdoor cable clips, trunking and 20mm conduit without needing oversized runs.

The solid CCA conductors provide a cost-effective alternative to pure copper for fixed installation where the cable is terminated once and left in place, rather than repeatedly flexed. Each of the eight strands measures 0.51mm diameter, giving a combined cross-sectional area of 0.204mm² per conductor. The cable maintains 100-ohm impedance across the length and ships in an easy-pull dispensing box that allows controlled unreeling without the cable tangling or kinking during installation.

Can this cable be used indoors?

Yes. The outdoor-rated PE sheath is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. The UV-resistant properties simply mean it will not degrade under sunlight if run externally, but the cable performs identically indoors to standard Cat5e.

What's the difference between CCA and pure copper conductors?

Copper-clad aluminium has a thin copper layer over an aluminium core, making it lighter and less expensive than pure copper. CCA is suitable for fixed installations where the cable is terminated once and left in place, but it is not recommended for patch leads or applications requiring repeated flexing, as the aluminium core is less ductile than copper.

What connectors does this cable take?

The cable is designed to be terminated with RJ45 plugs or jacks rated for solid-core Cat5e cable. Standard crimp-on or punch-down termination tools are required — the solid conductors do not suit crimp connectors designed for stranded cable.

Does the 305m box have outer markings?

Yes. The cable is marked at 1m intervals along its length, allowing accurate measurement during installation without needing a separate tape measure.
