Description
The Mercury Cat6a U/FTP is a 305m twisted pair network cable with individual aluminium foil screening on each of the four pairs, a low smoke zero halogen outer sheath in lilac, and solid oxygen-free copper conductors rated to AWG 23. The cable meets TIA/EIA-568 Cat6a specification and passes fluke testing at 500MHz over 100m, supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet, HDBaseT AV distribution and PoE++ power delivery applications.
Designed for permanent installation in commercial AV, data centre, hospitality and residential network infrastructure, the cable is supplied on a sturdy wooden drum reel with 1-metre interval markings on the sheath for accurate cable run measurement during installation. The U/FTP construction provides screening on each twisted pair without an overall cable screen, reducing interference from adjacent cables and external electromagnetic sources while keeping the cable diameter to 7.5mm for easier runs through conduit and trunking.
The LSZH sheath complies with RoHS and minimises toxic fume and smoke emission in the event of fire, making the cable suitable for use in occupied buildings, enclosed ceiling voids and public spaces where fire safety regulations require low-emission materials. The lilac sheath colour aids cable identification in multi-cable installations where different network segments or VLANs need visual separation. At 14.5kg for the full 305m drum, the cable requires a cable drum holder or roller for safe handling during installation.

Frequently Asked
What does U/FTP mean?
U/FTP indicates unshielded overall construction with foil-screened twisted pairs. Each of the four pairs has its own aluminium foil screen, but there is no overall braid or foil wrap around all four pairs together. This gives interference protection between pairs while keeping the cable diameter smaller than F/FTP alternatives.
Is this cable suitable for PoE++?
Yes. The solid oxygen-free copper conductors and 0.251mm² cross-sectional area per conductor handle the current draw from PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt Type 4) devices delivering up to 100W over the full 100m channel length without excessive voltage drop or conductor heating.
What is LSZH and why does it matter?
LSZH stands for Low Smoke Zero Halogen. Unlike PVC-sheathed cable, LSZH releases minimal smoke and no halogen-based toxic gases when exposed to fire. This is required by building regulations in many commercial and public buildings, particularly in enclosed spaces like ceiling voids, risers and areas with limited ventilation.
Can this cable be used outdoors?
The cable is designed for internal installation in dry locations. For outdoor runs or burial, use cable with UV-resistant and waterproof sheathing rated for external or direct burial use.
