Description

The Mercury Cat6 U/UTP network cable is a 305m reel of unshielded twisted pair data cable with solid copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors, designed for fixed Gigabit Ethernet installations in commercial and residential buildings. The cable comprises eight 0.57mm diameter conductors arranged in four twisted pairs, with HDPE insulation and a grey PVC outer sheath rated to 5.5mm diameter.

Supplied in a pull-through dispensing box with metre markings printed along the cable length, the Mercury Cat6 supports structured cabling installations where cable runs are measured and terminated on-site. The solid conductor construction suits patch panel termination using punch-down tooling, while the CCA conductor material provides cost-effective performance for fixed installations where the cable will not be repeatedly flexed. The cable passes Cat6 fluke testing at 250MHz over 100m runs and complies with TIA/EIA-568 Cat6 specifications.

The unshielded (U/UTP) construction means there is no foil or braided screen around the cable or individual pairs, making it lighter and easier to route through trunking and conduit than shielded alternatives. The 100-ohm impedance and tested NEXT performance above 40dB at 100m allow the cable to handle Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) data rates reliably when correctly terminated. Each 305m box weighs 8.5kg and provides enough cable for multiple runs in a typical home or small office network installation.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between CCA and pure copper conductors?

Copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors have an aluminium core with a copper outer layer, providing lower cost than pure copper. CCA is suitable for fixed installations where the cable will not be repeatedly flexed or bent. Pure copper offers better conductivity and durability for patch leads and cables that will be moved regularly.

Can this cable be used outdoors?

No. The PVC sheath is rated for indoor use only. Outdoor Cat6 installations require UV-resistant sheathing and typically a gel-filled or waterproof construction to prevent moisture ingress.

What termination method does solid conductor cable require?

Solid conductor cable is designed for punch-down termination onto patch panels, wall plates and keystone jacks using an impact tool. It should not be crimped into RJ45 plugs, which are designed for stranded cable. Use stranded patch leads to connect between wall plates and devices.

How many cable runs will a 305m box provide?

This depends on the distance between patch panel and outlets. For typical office installations with 20-30m runs, a 305m box provides 10-15 individual cable runs. Residential installations with shorter runs may yield 20+ terminations from one box.
