Description

The Mercury is a 6-core alarm cable with stranded tinned copper-clad aluminium (TCCA) conductors, each rated at 0.22mm² cross-sectional area. Each core consists of 7 strands of 0.2mm diameter wire, sheathed in colour-coded PVC insulation for easy circuit identification during installation. The entire bundle sits within a white PVC outer sheath measuring 4.2mm in diameter.

Designed for residential and commercial burglar alarm systems, intruder detection panels, door contacts, motion sensors, keypads and other low-voltage security wiring, the cable is supplied on a 100m reel. The 0.22mm² conductor size suits typical alarm panel voltage drops over runs up to 50-80m depending on load, making it a standard choice for single-dwelling and small commercial installations. The white outer sheath blends with ceiling voids, loft spaces and surface-run conduit in domestic settings.

TCCA conductors reduce material cost compared to pure copper while retaining adequate conductivity for low-current alarm circuits, which typically draw milliamps rather than amps. The 7-strand construction gives the cable flexibility during installation through walls, above ceilings and around corners without risk of conductor fracture. At 1.7kg per 100m reel, the cable is light enough to handle solo during installation without additional support equipment.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between TCCA and pure copper conductors?

TCCA (tinned copper-clad aluminium) has an aluminium core with a tinned copper outer layer. It provides adequate conductivity for low-current alarm circuits at lower material cost than solid copper. For high-current applications or runs exceeding 100m, pure copper cable is recommended.

What maximum run length does 0.22mm² support?

Voltage drop limits vary by alarm panel specifications. Most 12V alarm systems tolerate 0.22mm² cable over runs up to 50-80m depending on the cumulative current draw of connected sensors. Consult your alarm panel manufacturer's installation guide for specific voltage drop calculations.

Are the cores colour-coded?

Yes. Each of the six cores has colour-coded PVC insulation to aid circuit identification during termination at the panel and device ends. Standard colour coding typically follows alarm industry conventions.

Is this cable suitable for outdoor use?

The white PVC sheath provides basic moisture resistance but is not UV-stabilised or rated for direct outdoor exposure. For external alarm wiring, run the cable inside conduit or use a cable rated specifically for outdoor/external installation.
