Description

The Mercury power lead connects UK mains to figure 8 (C7) socket devices over 5 metres of 2-core 0.75mm² cable. One end carries a BS 1363 approved UK 3-pin plug fitted with a 3A fuse, the other a C7 figure 8 socket that plugs into radios, DVD players, portable TVs, Bluetooth speakers, DAB radios and other low-power consumer electronics.

The 5m length is designed for AV equipment positioned away from wall sockets, behind furniture, or on high shelves. The cable runs cleanly behind desks, entertainment units and bookcases without needing an extension lead. The 2.5A current rating handles devices up to 575W, which covers the full range of consumer electronics that use figure 8 connectors.

The 2-core construction meets BSI standards for non-earthed appliances, and the flexible PVC outer insulation allows the cable to route through tight bends and cable management clips without kinking. At 316g for the full 5m length the lead is light enough to be supported by the device connector without additional strain relief.

Frequently Asked

What devices use figure 8 connectors?

Figure 8 (IEC C7) connectors are found on radios, portable TVs, DVD players, Bluetooth speakers, DAB radios, laptop power supplies, electric shavers and other small consumer electronics that do not require an earth connection. If the device has a two-pin inlet that looks like a figure 8, this lead will fit.

Is the cable fused?

Yes. The UK 3-pin plug contains a 3A fuse, which protects the cable and the connected device. The fuse can be replaced if it blows.

Can this be used for laptops?

Only if the laptop power supply has a figure 8 (C7) inlet socket. Many modern laptop power supplies use a different connector type, often a cloverleaf (C5) or kettle lead (C13) socket, which are not compatible with this cable.

What is the difference between 2-core and 3-core cable?

2-core cable has live and neutral conductors only, with no earth wire. It is used for double-insulated appliances that do not require earthing. 3-core cable includes an earth wire and is used for metal-cased or higher-power devices. Figure 8 connectors are by design 2-core only.
