Description

The Mercury is a 4-core screened signal cable with tinned copper conductors, an overall braided screen and a grey PVC outer sheath. Each core uses 7 strands of 0.19mm diameter wire giving a 0.20mm² cross-sectional area, and the braided screen comprises 112 strands of 0.12mm wire surrounding all four cores. The cable measures 5.5mm in overall diameter and is supplied on a 100m reel.

Designed for fixed audio installations in public address systems, background music zones, multi-room audio distribution and low-voltage control applications, the cable balances signal integrity with mechanical durability. The tinned copper conductors resist oxidation in damp environments, the braided screen rejects electromagnetic interference from mains cables and lighting circuits, and the cotton infill between cores and screen maintains core spacing under tension during installation.

The grey PVC sheath provides abrasion resistance for cable runs clipped to walls, pulled through conduit or routed under floor voids. The 0.20mm² conductor size suits signal-level audio rather than speaker-level runs, keeping resistance low enough for balanced line signals over distances up to 50m without audible loss. The 4-core configuration allows a pair of balanced mono signals or a single stereo balanced signal to be carried on one cable run, reducing conduit congestion and installation time on multi-zone projects.

Frequently Asked

What applications is this cable suited to?

The Mercury 4-core is designed for signal-level audio in fixed PA installations, background music systems, multi-room audio distribution and low-voltage control wiring. The 0.20mm² conductor size is not suitable for speaker-level connections — use dedicated speaker cable for amplifier-to-speaker runs.

What does the braided screen do?

The 112-strand tinned copper screen surrounds all four cores and provides electromagnetic interference rejection from nearby mains cables, lighting circuits and other electrical equipment. The screen must be earthed at one end of the cable run to function correctly.

Can it be used outdoors?

The grey PVC sheath provides weather resistance for outdoor runs if the cable is installed in conduit or trunking. Direct burial or exposure to UV without protection will degrade the PVC over time.

How many cable runs can I get from a 100m reel?

A 100m reel supplies two 50m runs, four 25m runs or ten 10m runs with no wastage. For installations needing multiple cable drops of similar length, calculate total run distance including vertical and horizontal routing before ordering.
