Description

The Mercury 3-pair telephone cable is a 100m roll of copper-clad steel (CCS) telephone cable containing six colour-coded conductors arranged in three pairs. Each conductor has a 0.45mm diameter and 0.16mm² cross-sectional area, with the pairs twisted and enclosed in a 4.5mm white PVC outer sheath.

Designed for residential and small office telephone installations requiring up to three separate lines or extensions, the cable terminates with standard RJ11, RJ12 or RJ45 connectors depending on the number of pairs needed. The colour-coded insulation on each conductor follows standard telecoms pairing conventions, allowing installers to identify and match pairs at both ends of a cable run without needing a tester on every termination.

The copper-clad steel construction combines the conductivity needed for analogue voice signals with higher tensile strength than solid copper equivalents, reducing the risk of conductor breakage during installation in ceiling voids, trunking or surface-mounted conduit. The white outer sheath keeps a low visual profile when surface-run along skirting boards or door frames. At 2.3kg per 100m the cable is light enough to handle comfortably during long installation runs.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between CCS and solid copper?

Copper-clad steel uses a steel core with a copper coating. It provides higher tensile strength than solid copper, reducing the risk of conductor breakage during installation, while still maintaining adequate conductivity for analogue telephone signals. Solid copper offers slightly better conductivity but is more prone to breaking under tension.

How many telephone lines does this cable support?

The cable contains three pairs (six conductors), so it can carry up to three separate telephone lines or extensions. A single analogue telephone line uses one pair, so this cable suits small offices or homes needing multiple lines without running separate cables for each.

What connectors does it work with?

The cable is compatible with RJ11 (2-pair), RJ12 (3-pair) and RJ45 (4-pair) modular connectors. The number of pairs you terminate depends on how many lines you need to run. Connectors and crimp tools are sold separately.

Can it be used for data networking?

No. This is a telephone-grade cable with CCS conductors and 0.16mm² CSA, not rated for Ethernet or data networking. For network cabling use Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6a cable instead.
