Description

The Mercury is a 3-core round mains cable with a 1.0mm² cross-sectional area per core, supplied on a 100m reel. Each core is constructed from 32 strands of 0.2mm copper wire, providing flexibility for installation in tight runs and around corners. The outer jacket is black PVC, giving the cable a 7.2mm overall diameter.

Designed for light electrical equipment and appliances drawing up to 10A on 230V mains, the cable suits permanent installation in domestic, commercial and light industrial settings. Common applications include table lamps, standard lamps, kitchen appliances, audio equipment and portable power tools. The round profile sits flat against walls and baseboards when surface-run, and pulls cleanly through conduit or trunking without snagging on corners.

The cable carries approval to both BSI BS6500 and VDE standards, confirming compliance with UK and European requirements for flexible mains cable. The 100m reel length allows multiple connections to be run from a single purchase without joins mid-run. The black jacket provides neutral colour matching for most environments and hides surface dirt better than lighter cable colours during storage and installation.

Frequently Asked

What appliances can this cable safely supply?

The 10A rating suits appliances drawing up to 2,300W on 230V mains. This includes most table lamps, floor lamps, radios, televisions, kitchen appliances (toasters, kettles, blenders), portable power tools and audio equipment. Do not use for high-draw equipment like electric heaters, ovens or immersion heaters.

Is this cable suitable for fixed wiring?

The cable is approved to BS6500, which covers flexible cables for appliances and portable equipment. For fixed permanent wiring (ring mains, lighting circuits, spur circuits) use cable approved to BS6004 or BS7671 requirements instead. The Mercury suits permanent flex runs to appliances but not building circuit wiring.

Can the cable be used outdoors?

The PVC jacket provides basic moisture resistance but the cable does not carry an IP rating for outdoor exposure. Use indoors only, or where the cable run is fully protected inside weatherproof conduit or trunking.

What is the core colour coding?

The three cores follow standard UK mains colour coding: brown (live), blue (neutral), green/yellow (earth). This matches the wiring convention for all UK mains appliances and plugs.
