Description
The Mercury 2 core round mains cable is a white PVC-sheathed flexible cable with a 1.0mm² cross-sectional area, supplied on a 100m reel. Each core consists of 32 strands of 0.2mm diameter copper wire, giving the cable flexibility for routing around corners and through tight spaces while maintaining a 10A maximum current capacity.
Designed for light-duty electrical installations including table lamps, floor lamps, small appliances and low-power fixed wiring, the cable suits domestic and light commercial applications where a round profile is preferred over flat twin-and-earth. The 6.4mm overall diameter allows it to pass through cable glands, grommets and conduit sized for standard 1.0mm² round flex. The white PVC sheath provides mechanical protection and insulation to 300/500V rating.
The cable carries both BSI and VDE approval, confirming compliance with British and European standards for flexible mains cables. The 2 x 32/0.2mm stranding gives the cable better flex life than solid-core equivalents, making it suitable for applications where the cable is subject to repeated bending or movement. The 100m reel length allows multiple short runs to be cut from a single spool, reducing waste on installation jobs requiring several cable drops of varying length.
Each reel is packaged in pairs (2 reels per pack as supplied). The white finish suits installations where the cable run is surface-mounted or visible, providing a neutral appearance that blends with white fixtures, skirting and ceiling roses.

Frequently Asked
What applications is this cable suitable for?
The cable suits table lamps, floor lamps, pendant light drops, small appliances rated up to 10A, and light-duty fixed wiring where a flexible round cable is preferred over rigid twin-and-earth. It is rated 300/500V and carries BSI and VDE approval for mains use.
What is the difference between 2 core and 3 core cable?
2 core cable has live and neutral conductors only, with no earth. It is used for double-insulated appliances (Class II) and light fittings that do not require an earth connection. If your appliance or fitting requires an earth, you need 3 core cable.
Can this cable be used outdoors?
The white PVC sheath provides basic weather resistance but the cable is not UV-stabilised or rated for prolonged outdoor exposure. For outdoor installations, use cable specifically rated for outdoor or direct burial use.
How many reels are in the pack?
The cable is packed as 2 reels per unit. Each reel contains 100m of cable, giving 200m total per pack as supplied.
