Description

The Mercury is a 2-core round mains cable with 0.75mm² cross-sectional area, built from 2 x 24 strands of 0.2mm diameter copper wire enclosed in a 5.8mm white PVC outer sheath. The cable is rated to 6A continuous current and carries both BSI BS6500 and VDE approvals for use in UK and European light electrical installations.

Designed for domestic lighting circuits, table lamp wiring, pendant light drops and low-power appliance connections, the cable's round profile and flexible construction allow it to be routed through conduit, along surface trunking or behind plasterboard without kinking. The 100m reel suits electricians and trade installers running multiple lighting points from a single supply, or extending circuits in residential refurbishments where cable runs exceed 20-30m.

The white PVC sheath provides basic mechanical protection and insulation against 230V mains voltage, with the outer jacket rated for indoor use in dry environments. The 0.75mm² CSA handles lighting loads up to approximately 1,380W at 230V (6A), making it suitable for LED downlight arrays, pendant circuits with multiple fittings, and small appliances under 500W. The cable is not rated for outdoor or wet locations without additional protection.

Each 100m reel is packed as part of a 4-reel carton, with the reel itself allowing cable to be drawn off without tangling. The flexible stranding allows the cable to be bent through tight corners during installation, though repeated flexing under load (e.g. vacuum cleaner cable) will reduce service life compared to fixed installation use.

Frequently Asked

What can this cable be used for?

The 0.75mm² CSA and 6A rating suit lighting circuits, pendant light drops, table lamp wiring and low-power appliance connections up to approximately 1,380W at 230V. It is not rated for ring mains, cooker circuits or high-draw appliances.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

No. The white PVC sheath is rated for indoor dry locations only. Outdoor or wet-location installations require cable with higher IP ratings and UV-resistant sheathing.

Can it be used in conduit or trunking?

Yes. The round 5.8mm profile and flexible stranding allow the cable to be drawn through conduit, surface trunking or chased into walls behind plasterboard without kinking.

What approvals does it carry?

The cable is approved to BSI BS6500 (UK standard for flexible cables) and VDE (German electrical safety standard), confirming compliance for UK and European installations.
