Description

The Mercury is a 2 core oval mains cable with a 0.75mm² cross-sectional area, supplied on a 100m reel with a white PVC outer sheath. Each core contains 24 strands of 0.2mm diameter copper conductor, giving the cable a flexible profile suitable for pulling through conduit, routing behind skirting boards, and making tight bends in domestic lighting and appliance circuits.

Designed for light electrical installations where a flat, low-profile cable run is needed, the oval cross-section measures 3.6 x 5.9mm, making it less obtrusive than round cable when run along surfaces or under carpets. The cable is rated at 6A maximum current, which suits table lamps, standard lights, doorbells, low-power appliances and similar applications on lighting circuits and low-load spur lines.

The white PVC sheath is BSI BS6500 and VDE approved, meeting UK and European standards for flexible mains cable used in domestic and commercial electrical work. The 100m reel length allows multiple shorter runs to be cut from a single spool, reducing waste and simplifying stock management for electricians and contractors working across multiple properties.

Frequently Asked

What applications is this cable suitable for?

The 0.75mm² 6A rating suits table lamps, pendant lights, standard lighting circuits, doorbells, low-power appliances and similar applications. It is not suitable for high-draw appliances like kettles, heaters or power tools, which require larger CSA cable and higher current ratings.

What does the oval profile offer over round cable?

The 3.6 x 5.9mm oval cross-section sits flatter against surfaces, making it less obtrusive when run along skirting boards, under carpets or behind wall-mounted fixtures. The reduced height also helps when threading cable through shallow conduit or tight gaps.

Is this cable suitable for outdoor use?

No. The white PVC sheath is rated for indoor use only. For outdoor or damp environments, use cable with a higher IP rating or a sheath material designed for UV and moisture resistance.

What standards does it comply with?

The cable is BSI BS6500 and VDE approved, meeting UK and European standards for flexible mains cable used in domestic and commercial electrical installations.
