Description

The Mercury 1m power lead connects a standard UK 3-pin mains plug to an IEC C13 female socket, the rectangular kettle-lead style connector found on most desktop computers, monitors, printers, AV receivers and similar mains-powered electronics. The cable carries 10A at 230V mains, rated to 2300W maximum load, and uses a 3-core construction with 3 x 0.75mm² conductors approved to BSI standards.

Designed for short-distance connections where equipment sits close to a wall socket or power strip, the 1m length reduces cable clutter in desk setups, TV stands, studio racks and similar installations. The UK plug carries BS 1363 approval and includes a fitted 10A fuse. The white cable finish suits residential, office and retail environments where dark cables would stand out against light-coloured walls or furniture.

The IEC C13 socket end fits the male IEC C14 inlet found on the rear panel of most desktop electronics manufactured since the 1990s. The cable weighs 142g, light enough to avoid strain on rear-panel connectors when equipment is moved or repositioned. The moulded plug and socket ends provide strain relief at both terminations, reducing wear where the cable flexes during installation or equipment movement.

Frequently Asked

What equipment uses an IEC C13 socket?

Most desktop computers, monitors, printers, AV receivers, studio monitors, PA amplifiers and similar mains-powered electronics use an IEC C14 inlet on the rear panel, which accepts the IEC C13 plug on this cable. Check the shape of the inlet on your equipment — the C14 is a rectangular three-pin connector approximately 28mm wide.

Is the 1m length suitable for desk setups?

Yes. The 1m length suits equipment positioned close to a wall socket or desk-mounted power strip, typically within 600-800mm accounting for cable routing around the back of a desk or behind equipment. For equipment further from the socket, longer Mercury leads are available in 2m and 5m versions.

What is the maximum load this cable can carry?

The cable is rated 10A at 230V mains, giving a maximum continuous load of 2300W. Most desktop computers draw 150-400W under typical use, monitors 30-100W, and printers 300-500W during printing, all well within the cable's capacity.

Is the fuse replaceable in the UK plug?

Yes. The UK plug includes a fitted 10A fuse which can be replaced if it blows. The fuse is accessible by opening the fuse cover on the base of the plug.
