Description

The Mercury 100U is a 75-ohm coaxial cable built with a 1mm solid oxygen-free copper (OFC) conductor, 4.6mm foam polyethylene dielectric, copper foil screen and copper-clad aluminium (CCA) braid. The cable measures 6.6mm in overall diameter and is supplied on a 100m reel with a white PVC outer sheath. The construction is designed for digital TV, satellite and cable TV signal transmission where low attenuation and stable impedance are required.

Installed in domestic and commercial AV systems, the cable suits runs from satellite dishes to receivers, aerials to distribution amplifiers, and cable TV entry points to set-top boxes. The foam PE dielectric reduces signal loss compared to solid polyethylene cores, while the copper foil screen provides continuous shielding against interference. The CCA braid adds mechanical strength and a secondary screen layer without the weight and cost of a pure copper braid.

The 100m reel length allows installers to run continuous cable spans without mid-run joins, reducing potential points of signal degradation. The white sheath blends with wall surfaces and skirting boards in residential settings. Signal attenuation is rated at 6.6dB per 100m at 100MHz, rising to 32.7dB per 100m at 2150MHz, making the cable suitable for standard satellite frequency ranges up to 2.15GHz. The 75-ohm impedance matches standard F-type connectors and satellite receiver inputs.

Frequently Asked

What applications is this cable suitable for?

The Mercury 100U is designed for digital TV, satellite and cable TV signal transmission. Typical installations include runs from satellite dishes to receivers, aerial connections to distribution amplifiers, and cable TV entry points to set-top boxes in domestic and commercial AV systems.

What does CCA braid mean?

CCA stands for copper-clad aluminium. The braid uses aluminium wire with a thin copper coating, providing adequate screening and mechanical strength at lower weight and cost than a pure copper braid. The solid OFC conductor remains pure copper for optimal signal transmission.

How does foam PE dielectric improve performance?

Foam polyethylene has lower dielectric loss than solid polyethylene, reducing signal attenuation and improving the velocity factor to 83%. This means signals travel faster through the cable with less degradation over long runs.

What connectors are compatible?

The cable's 6.6mm diameter and 75-ohm impedance match standard F-type connectors used in satellite and cable TV installations. Both compression and crimp F-connectors designed for 6-7mm coaxial cable will fit this construction.
