Description

The Merbessa is a round flush ceiling light with a gently domed shade of satin glass. The white glass is printed with a scatter of grey triangles and chevrons that sweeps in an arc across it. It measures 25cm across and is 7cm deep, so it hugs the ceiling closely. The light source is an E27 screw bulb up to a maximum of 25W. The bulb is not included, so you can choose the bulb you like best. It is rated IP20, which means it belongs indoors in dry rooms, away from water.

At 25cm across, it suits smaller spaces where a larger fitting would crowd the ceiling: a hallway, a landing, a box room or a bedroom. Because it sits so close to the ceiling, it also works well where ceilings are low and a hanging pendant would get in the way. The pattern gives a plain white ceiling light a little character without shouting. The grey tones sit comfortably with white, grey and neutral schemes. Satin glass softens and spreads light, so the glow is even rather than glaring.

The body is white steel, and small clear clips at the rim hold the glass shade in place. There is no switch on the fitting itself. It is switched at the wall, so it runs from your room's wall switch. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. It weighs just 0.71KG packed. Fit a bulb of 25W or less, and wipe the glass with a soft cloth now and then to keep the pattern crisp and the light bright.
