Description

Squat and quietly made, this is a low post light that sits close to the ground and puts its light where you are walking. The anthracite finish is a deep grey that reads almost black at dusk and settles back into planting by day. It stands 35.5cm tall on a small rectangular base, so it holds its place beside a path without looming over it. An E27 socket sits inside, taking up to 20W, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer.

We would use it to mark a front path, the turn of garden steps or the edge of a patio, set in a run along one side rather than as a single point. It is sealed against dust and splashing water, so weather and a hose-down at the end of the season are no trouble. The light it gives is ambient and unfussy rather than a directed beam, which keeps it easy on the eyes as you pass. Warm white suits it best, and we reach for an LED GLS in ours, though tubular and squirrel-cage lamps fit just as happily.

The anthracite is matt and carried over the whole body, base included, so scuffs from a boot or a mower show less than they would on a gloss. Keeping it right takes little: wipe the housing with a damp cloth and brush cobwebs from the corners now and then, with the power off first. It carries a two year warranty. The same shape runs through the rest of the Maya range in matching anthracite, as a wall light, a pendant and a ceiling fitting, so a path, a porch and a covered entrance can be kept of a piece. Lamps are not included.
