Description

Maya hangs long and narrow: a slim column that drops 62cm from the ceiling and measures only 18cm across. That proportion gives a light which reads as a line rather than a shade. The anthracite finish sits quietly against a pale ceiling and reads close to black in shadow. It gives ambient light rather than a directed beam, and it takes an E27 lamp of up to 20W. We would put a GLS or tubular LED in it.

The sealed build means it copes with dust and splashing water, so it earns a place in a shower room or a utility as readily as a hallway, and it is at home under a porch roof or a covered walkway. The narrow diameter helps where space is tight, beside a front door or above a stair landing, though the long drop asks for a room with some height. We reach for it where a wide shade would crowd the ceiling. With a dimmable lamp and a compatible dimmer it will take the level down for the evening.

The anthracite runs over the whole fitting, so nothing bright breaks the line. Before cleaning, switch the circuit off and give the lamp time to cool; dust comes away with a dry cloth, and a cloth wrung out in warm water deals with anything greasier. It needs an earthed supply and is a mains fitting for the home. It carries a two year warranty.
